On the last work day with the help of 4 CGi volunteers 11 different species of tree totalling 216 whips were planted in the new coppice area of which 200 were donated by CGi and 16 were grown from seed by FoF member Bill Bessant. Some of the whips were also mulched with wood chippings but the remainder still need to be done so we will be meeting at 10.00 a.m. at the new coppiced area to complete the mulching. Some trees which were blocking paths and only partially cleared also need attention and "tidying up".
The species of tree planted were as follows:
120 Hazel
10 Field Maple
20 Hornbeam
10 Pedunculate (English) Oak
10 Sessile Oak
10 Small-leaved Lime
10 Whitebeam
10 Wild Cherry
11 Buckthorn
3 Juniper
2 Wych Elm
Any help you can give on the day no matter how much or how little is always very much appreciated - an hour or two of your time can make all the difference as to whether the task(s) planned for the day get done. As usual FoF will be providing all the necessary tools for the above tasks but please would you bring your own gloves and tools (shears and loppers) if you have them. Please would you also bring your own wipes and hand gel as well as your own refreshments. Please also remember to wear long trousers/jeans to avoid getting bitten by ticks but FoF’s First Aid kit does contain tick removers if needed.
Please would you let me know if you will be able to make the work day (chrispm_parker@hotmail.co.uk) - many thanks.
