Work day: Sunday 9th July

The main task for the day will be to continue brushcutting and raking vegetation encroaching the paths as well as cutting back any branches overhanging the paths. On the last work day only the top path was partially cleared as the meeting with Alastair McKinlay, London Urban Forest Partnership to trial a Woodland Condition Assessment Tool took longer than expected as it also involved carrying out an assessment of a compartment at the back of the Charcoal Glade as an working example of the information required to complete the survey forms. The cordon around the suspect Giant Hogweed also needs to be removed as it has now been identified as Common Hogweed and is therefore not dangerous and doesn’t cause a Health & Safety hazard. As usual FoF will be providing all the necessary tools for the above tasks but please would you bring your own gloves and tools (shears and loppers) if you have them. Please would you also bring your own wipes and hand gel as well as your own refreshments. Please also remember to wear long trousers/jeans to avoid getting bitten by ticks but FoF’s First Aid kit does contain tick removers if needed. Please would you let me know if you will be able to make the work day (chrispm_parker@hotmail.co.uk)
