Work day: 19/03/2025 (Wednesday)

12 CGi volunteers will be coming on the above work day to help plant 100 Hazel whips, 20 Downy Birch, 10 Pedunculate (English) Oak, 10 Field Maple, 10 Hornbeam, 10 Small-leaved Lime, 10 Whitebeam and 10 Wild Cherry whips which they will be supplying as well as 10 Wych Elm whips supplied by Nick Shanks, Croydon's Forestry Consultant - total 190 whips.

The plan is for the volunteers to arrive at 10.00 a.m. at the entrance in Woodland Way when they will be given a Health & Safety and Safe Working briefing as well as instruction on how to plant the whips and planting distances. In case any of the volunteers arrive early it would be useful if some FoF members could be at the entrance at 09.30 a.m. to meet and greet the volunteers as they arrive and also direct those who come by car where to park along Woodland Way between the entrance to the wood and Higher Drive.

FoF will be providing tools for the above task but please would you bring a spade with you as well as your own gloves if you have them. Please would you also bring your own wipes and hand gel as well as your own refreshments. Please also remember to wear long trousers/jeans to avoid getting bitten by ticks although FoF’s First Aid kit does contain tick removers if needed.

It would be helpful to have as many FoF members as possible attend the work day to welcome the volunteers and assist with the planting so please would you let me know if you will be able to come (chrispm_parker@hotmail.co.uk) - many thanks.
