There is a hazel on the left side of the top path towards the field end which was cut back but the regrowth is now intruding onto the path. It needs to be grubbed out altogether and possibly the Hawthorn opposite as well. Behind each of these trees are two Ash trees marked for felling which Mick and Anthony are considering felling provided the contractors don't fell them first. The trees are small enough for FoF to fell and being close to the path are relatively easy to move. Vegetation and dead wood is obstructing various sections of the top path running parallel to the Sherwood Oaks Field also need to be cut back to allow better vehicle access.
The two Juniper enclosures above the Butterfly Glade need to be cleared and the areas around them cut well back especially to the south. The Juniper nearest the glade has grown sideways and its enclosure needs either shifting, or possibly easier, enlarging to accommodate that growth. There is a small roll of the netting in the storage area and there are also some left-over fence posts still inside the Ancient Beech enclosure along with some angle iron which could used to extend the enclosure.
There is also Juniper seed to be collected from the four trees in the enclosure below the Butterfly Glade although this task could wait until the postponed LexisNexis Corporate Work Day as a secondary task for the volunteers – please see note below.
The picnic glade needs to be mowed with the mowings collected in a builders bag and moved on the double wheeled barrow to Sherwood Oaks Field for distributing over the field and I’ll be bringing my mower for this task.
An order for 10 bags of firewood has recently been received which will need to be replaced but this could also wait until the LexisNexis volunteers can assist.
As usual please would you continue to bring your own gloves and tools (shears and loppers) if you have them but a selection of FoF tools will be available for those who need them. Please would you also continue to bring your own wipes and hand gel as well as your own refreshments. Please also remember to wear long trousers/jeans to avoid getting bitten by ticks but FoF’s First Aid kit does contain tick removers if needed.
