Storms Dudley, Eunice and Franklin

2nd March 2022, by Andrew Wood

The three storms that hit the UK recently, causing extensive damage and, sadly, injury and some deaths did not damage Foxley Wood that much. A large conifer fell into the woods from a garden in Woodland Way, smashing a couple of fence panels. Some smaller trees and branches came down and they have been cleared or made safer by volunteers from Friends of Foxley. Storms are part of the recent history of Foxley Wood and the Great Storm of October 1987 actually led to the formation of the group. The damage to the wood was more serious that time and the local council had a lot on their hands. Foxley Wood was not high on their list of priorities prompting local people to take action.

The Friends of Foxley are a group of volunteers who manage Foxley Wood in Kenley, Surrey.
